Friendship is easier when you start from something you share.
Making friends gets harder after school and early jobs: routines settle, groups form, and "we should hang out" turns into nothing. KnownList is an app, currently in development for New Jersey and New York, that tries to fix the first and hardest step: meeting the right people.
Why we are building this
Most of us have more ways to message people than ever and fewer easy ways to meet them. We want to make the first step smaller: introductions through the things you genuinely enjoy, at a pace you control, with your privacy protected from the start.
What we are building
- Introductions through interests. You choose 5 to 20 interests and answer a short questionnaire. A compatibility score ranks the people you see.
- A smooth path from chat to meetup. Friendly challenges built from shared interests, built-in chat translation on your device, and a simple plan for meeting in a public place.
- Privacy by design. Other people only see an approximate area and rounded distance. Your questionnaire answers are private, and you can block or report anyone. Read the details on our Trust and safety page.
Where we are
The app is not available to download yet. This blog is where we share what we learn about meeting people, staying safe and building friendships as an adult. If a guide helps you, that is a good outcome whether or not you ever use the app.
