Privacy Policy

Last updated 2026-10-05

Draft. This page has not been reviewed by a lawyer yet and is hidden from search engines until it is.

This policy explains how KnownList ("KnownList", "we", "us") handles personal information on this website. It is written to be read, so we have kept it plain. It covers the website only. The KnownList app is still in development and is not available yet; it will have its own privacy policy before it launches (see the last section).

What we collect

When you just read the site

We do not ask you to create an account or give us any information to read the blog. Like any website, the service that hosts it handles basic technical data to deliver the pages and keep the site secure, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. That data is processed by our hosting provider under its own practices; we do not use it to identify you.

Cookies

We do not set cookies on this site.

Analytics

We do not currently use analytics on this site. If we add privacy-focused analytics later, we will say so here.

Email you send us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. We use it to reply and, where useful, to improve the site. We keep correspondence only as long as we need it.

How we use information

  • to run the website and keep it secure
  • to answer messages you send us
  • to understand, in aggregate, which content is useful
  • to meet legal obligations

Who we share it with

We share information only with the service providers that help us run the site (for example hosting), and only for that purpose. We may also disclose information if the law requires it or to protect people's safety.

Your choices

  • Ask us what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it using the contact details on our Contact page.
  • Use your browser's settings to block or clear data. Because we set no cookies, there is nothing of ours to clear.

Children

KnownList is intended for adults aged 18 and over. This website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we handle, but no website or system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will make it prominent.

The KnownList app

The app is in development. Before it launches we will publish a full privacy policy for it that explains exactly what it collects and why. The principles we are designing it around are described on our Trust and safety page: other people see only an approximate area and a rounded distance, never your exact location; your questionnaire answers stay private; and you control who can contact you.
